What it does
Peira puts a homelab on one screen. It manages Proxmox VE natively (nodes, containers, snapshots, live charts), has tabs for Proxmox Datacenter Manager and Proxmox Backup Server, a metrics tab backed by Prometheus, status panels for media services, an AI chat for any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and a terminal whose SSH targets come from the live Proxmox inventory.
The only hard requirement is Proxmox VE and an API token. A read-only PVEAuditor token shows everything except the management actions. Prometheus, Grafana, media services and AI endpoints are optional; their panels appear once they are configured. Credentials are kept in the system keychain, not in files.
Where it was tested
From the compatibility table in the README:
| Environment | Status |
|---|---|
| openSUSE Tumbleweed, GNOME on X11 | Used daily by the maintainer |
| Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 44, Arch (2026-04 base) | Automated acceptance: launch, setup wizard and token round trip through GNOME Keyring, embedded web views |
| Wayland with XWayland | Supported |
| Wayland without XWayland | Partial: embedded web views offer to open in a browser instead |
| Windows, macOS | Never; out of scope |
The README also says what that testing does not cover: the automated runs used headless X11 with software rendering, so they check function, not GPU paths.
Try it without a cluster
./Peira-v*-x86_64.AppImage --demo
Demo mode starts a fully populated, obviously fake lab with no configuration, no keyring writes and no network access. A banner stays on screen the whole time, so a demo screenshot cannot pass for a real one.
Check a release before you run it
Releases are signed with the Peira Labs release key, fingerprint 659A D4F9 BD11 8838 ECBA D6DB 587E C679 3F57 6180. Import the key once, confirm the fingerprint, then check the downloads:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/peiralabs/peira/main/docs/release-signing-key.asc | gpg --import

What it does not do
- No Windows or macOS build, and no hypervisors other than Proxmox.
- No telemetry. The update check is a single request to the GitHub releases API, made only when you ask for it.
- No automatic updates: an AppImage cannot replace itself, so updating is a download.
Known problems are kept in KNOWN_ISSUES.md, and the maintenance policy in MAINTENANCE.md.
